Judging Form on Qualtrics

Helpful Suggestion for judging:

The level of scientific expertise will vary between students. Some of them are just getting their feet wet in a lab setting, while others are much more advanced with years of research experience. It is important to encourage them all in a positive manner, regardless of their level of expertise.

As you read through your abstracts, you may find that some of these projects are outside your requested category. That’s ok! Most of these projects will be at a level that any faculty will be able to adequately judge the poster, and the stakes here are low. Scores from the judges will be averaged for a final score- any scores that are far outside the norm will likely be revisited and/or dropped.

Evaluating the Poster Presentation:

Please evaluate each of your assigned posters for clearly defined Hypothesis/Aims/objectives, Methods used, Results, Conclusions/Discussion, and Poster esthetics/organization. The last category, (Familiarity with the project) is to be scored based upon the student’s involvement and working understanding of the project.

Things to take into account are:

1)   Was the student was capable of explaining the entire project?
2)   Did they understand the significance of the data provided, including its limitations (if any)?
3) Did they provide conclusions based upon their findings and how they compare with those already published in their field?
4)   It is also useful to ask each of the presenters where they would like to go with the project in the future (if they had the luxury and time to do so)?
