General Surgery

American Vascular Association- Student Research Fellowship

Program Description

The SVS Foundation Student Research Fellowship stimulates laboratory and clinical vascular research by undergraduate college students and medical school students registered at universities in the United States and Canada.
The intent of the fellowship award is to further the student's education and introduce the student to the application of rigorous scientific methods to clinical problems and underlying biologic processes important to patients with vascular disease.
Successful applications are hypothesis-focused and achievable in the research period proposed. Projects supported by this award include basic science and translational research conducted by a vascular surgeon-scientist mentor as well as clinical research projects conducted under the auspices of a mentor experienced in clinical research.
Each award consists of a $3,000 student stipend and a two-year complimentary subscription to the Journal of Vascular Surgery.

 

Neurosurgery

American Association of Neurological Surgeons Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship

Program Description

The Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF) is pleased to offer the Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship (MSSRF) program. Up to 20 fellowships in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded each year to medical students in the United States or Canada who have completed one or two years of medical school, and wish to spend a summer working in a neurosurgical laboratory, mentored by a neurosurgical investigator sponsor who is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).

 

American brain Tumor Association- Medical Student Summer Fellowship Program

Program Description

The Medical Student Summer Fellowships are $3,000 grants awarded to medical students wishing to spend a summer conducting brain tumor research with esteemed scientist-mentors. The intent of this program is to motivate talented medical students to pursue a career in neuro-oncology research. The grant application portal opens in late-November, and accepts applications through mid- to late- January.

Prerequisites

Applicant/PI Must be currently enrolled in the first, second or third year of medical school. Must conduct the proposed research and training at the Mentor's institution. Must not have previously been a fellow on an ABTA Medical Student Summer
Fellowipsh. Is not required to be enrolled as a student at the Mentor's institution. Is not required to be a U.S. citizen or resident.
Research Institutio Must be a non-profit institution or organization in the United States or Canad. Must not be a governmental institution (i.e. NIH, NCI, etc.. Must serve as the administrator of the Grant funds and will hold responsibility for the management of the budget and submission of all required documents and reports. Must agree to adhere to the Policies and Procedures for ABTA Research Grants and

The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies Medical Student Summer Fellowship in Socioeconomic Research

Program Description

The CSNS/CNS Medical Student Socioeconomic Fellowship supports a medical student conducting research on a socioeconomic issue impacting neurosurgical practice. It is funded and overseen by the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies and administered through the Fellowship Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Prerequisites

The fellowship is open to all medical students in the United States and Canada. The fellow will spend 8 to 10 weeks conducting supervised research on a socioeconomic topic of importance to neurosurgery.

 

Oregon Health and Science University- Campagna Scholarship in Neurological Surgery

Program Description

A 10-Week Summer Research Scholarship Available for United States Medical Students Intending a Career in Neurological Surgery.
The Campagna Scholarship was endowed in 2006 by leading Oregon neurosurgeon Dr. Mario Campagna and his wife, Edith. The scholarship supports a 10-week summer semester of research under the supervision of a neurosurgical mentor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and residence expenses in Portland, Oregon. Students in the first or second year of study at an accredited U.S. medical school are eligible to apply. One scholar will be selected annually.

 

Orthopedic Surgery

Program Description

The Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship is an 8-week program of mentored research designed to introduce students who have completed their first year of medical school to research opportunities in orthopedic basic science, translational science, and clinical research in orthopedics.
The fellowship program is built around a summer research project that is directed by an orthopedic surgeon or scientist at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Both clinical and basic science projects are offered, and these are detailed below.
The fellowship program includes the opportunity for weekly observation of orthopedic surgical procedures with your mentor. In addition, a weekly seminar series and discussion group provides the opportunity for students to expand their understanding of the fundamentals of medical research and clinical orthopedics. Students will also be required to give a brief presentation on their research at the end of the program.

Prerequisites

Students who have completed their first year at an LCME accredited US medical school are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those students attending Weill Cornell Medical College.

 

Anesthesiology

The Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship Summer Program provides students with a challenging and rewarding experience that exposes them to the opportunities within the medical field of anesthesiology and research.
Medical students who participate in the summer anesthesia research fellowship can expect: Eight weeks of focused research related to anesthesiology. A dedicated mentor who will provide guidance and training in research techniques and scientific methods. The opportunity to make a scientific poster presentation at the American Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting, during the FAER MSARF Symposium. A $400 per week student stipend, ASA student membership dues, plus additional funds to help cover the costs of travel to the ASA meeting.

Prerequisites

Medical student enrolled full-time at a U.S.-based medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) OR Medical
student with U.S. citizenship enrolled full-time at a Canada-based medical school accredited by the
Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). OR Medical
student enrolled full-time at a U.S.-based college of osteopathic medicine accredited by the Commission
on Osteopathic College Accreditation Medical student who is in the first, second or third year of school on the application deadline, and will remain
enrolled in an MD or DO program throughout the summer research fellowship.
